Mt Tarawera

Mt Tarawera is an important part of Rotorua and New Zealand history. It is sacred and under guardianship of the Ngati Rangitihi Maori Tribe. Mt Tarawera last erupted on 10th June 1886,killing over 150 people and devastated the landscape and splitting the whole mountain in two.The eruption destroyed what until that time had been known as,the eighth wonder of the world "the pink and white terraces".
