New Zealand Nature & Wildlife Tours

New Zealand is home to a large array of unique native flora and fauna which are highlighted on our guided eco-tours. Our knowledgeable and experienced guides will take you to special places where rare and sometimes endangered creatures can be observed in their natural environments.

Our tours feature marine and bush habitats, including wetlands, coastal waters, lonely beaches, tidal estuaries, predator-free offshore island sanctuaries, rainforests, beech and kauri forests, native bush reserves, and areas where revegetation projects are now underway as part of conservation programmes.

You will experience at first hand flora and fauna found nowhere else in the world. You will have opportunities to appreciate kauri, totara, rimu, matai and kahikatea as you walk in forested areas, and may be introduced to unique creatures such as the tuatara, giant weta, New Zealand long-tailed bat, as well as distinctive native birds like the flightless kiwi, takahe and kakapo, native thrushes and wrens. Opportunities to encounter unique marine life such as Hooker's sea lions, Hector's dolphins, fur seals and native penguins are also offered.

Catlins Ecotours

This is one of New Zealand's outstanding forest and marine wildlife areas and our ecotours emphasise rare wildlife viewing and nature education.

Rare wildlife seen includes Hooker's sealions and yellow eyed penguins and at times yellow head, fernbird, Hector's dolphins and elephant seals.

Catlins Traverse Guided Walk

The Catlins Traverse beech to beach walk is a two day 30km guided walk through Catlins Forest Park beech forest and over private land which provides a variety of great views, historic features and rare wildlife.
Beech forest along the Catlins River, Hill top views & Papatowai Beach will overwhelm you as you enjoy eco-tourism at its very best.

You will be contributing to conservation of wildlife on every tour. We make wildlife observations and every guest contributes to the Department of Conservation through our concession payments. The work break programme involves specific projects for penguins, plant and history conservation as well as educational workshops.

Graded difficulty=2 Fiordland Wilderness Kayaking

Fiordland is recognised as one of the world’s foremost natural landscapes through its inclusion in the South West New Zealand World Heritage Area - Te Wahipounamu. Fiordland National Park is the largest in New Zealand and one of the largest in the world bordered on its eastern flank by the stunning glacial lakes of Manapouri and Te Anau and on the western shores by the 14 fiords which give the park its name. Its geography of mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, fiords, its weather, the beech and rain forests, its wildlife including many endangered species, the marine mammals and their unique underwater habitat all conspire to make Fiordland a sea kayaker’s wilderness. It is primeval, intense, life on a dramatic scale. Sea kayaking is the natural way to experience the essence, the spirit of this place.
For those with time, energy, commitment, determination and a sense of humour. Some paddling experience preferred

For those who prefer to kayak into the wilderness, this trip is especially designed to get to those places that are only accessed by the water and visited by few.

Graded difficulty=2 Nature Dunedin

The coastline of the Otago Peninsula which surrounds the Dunedin harbour is spectacular with both sandstone and basalt cliffs with volcanic rock formations leading down to the sand dunes and deserted beaches. Royal Albatross, fur seals, sea lions, shags, penguins, wading birds and native bush make Dunedin and the Peninsula an attractive destination in all seasons.

Personally guided nature and wildlife tours in and around Dunedin, the Otago Peninsula and the Catlins region combined into packages to get the most out of your stay with us.
